The “Lire et faire lire” association allows middle school students to benefit from reading workshops led by retirees. The goal ? Transmit the pleasure and the desire to read.
For 20 years, the “Lire et faire lire” association has been sending retirees to schools, where they give a little of their time, several times a week, to pupils to pass on to them the pleasure and the desire to read. This is the case of Michelle Morcrette, 74, and Marie-Christine Georges, 71, a volunteer. Both go regularly to a college in Sarcelles (Val-d’Oise) to lead a reading aloud workshop for 3-year-old students.and.
“We bring them a bit of openness. We get out of the margins of the program a bit”, explains Michelle Morcrette. These workshops also allow these young people, who are not always comfortable speaking, to gain confidence. The workshops cover all literary genres: the next session will be devoted to science fiction. For an hour, students can escape and learn, and that’s also the magic of reading.
