German car brands Porsche and Audi would soon make the jump to Formula 1, Volkswagen chief executive Herbert Diess told Reuters on Monday.

Diess spoke about this at an event in Wolfburg, where the offices of car giant Volkswagen are located.
He admitted, however, that discussions within the boards of Porsche and Audi, which are the luxury subsidiaries of Volkswagen, had created tensions.
Diess clarified that Porsche’s plans to make the jump to F1 are currently a little more concrete than Audi’s.
Within a few years, Porsche intends to establish a long-term commercial partnership with the Red Bull team, while Audi revealed to Reuters in March that it was ready to shell out around 500 million euros (556.3 million US dollars) for purchase of British luxury car manufacturer McLaren.
In either case, no timeline has been established.
F1 has been dominated for most of the last decade by another German automotive giant, Mercedes.
