The year 2000 was marked by the release of Downwind, title sung by Céline Dion and Garou, from all playlists more than 20 years later. Singing a duet with the planetary star that is Celine Dion has necessarily brought good to Garou’s career. But if he could go far in the company of the singer and her husband and manager at the time René Angélil, the former star of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris preferred to go his own way: “Watching the clip of ‘Downwind’, I saw a nice analogy, very representative. […] She wanted to take me very very high and then, at one point, it was almost me who cut the cord to let me float” he reveals in the program En Aparté, of which Gala reveals an exclusive extract.
Garou did not have the same ambitions as Celine Dion and he does not regret this choice: “I wanted to go down more than up. I didn’t want to be all over the planet. Did Celine Dion blame Garou for putting distance between them? Not at all.
