In a garden there are all sorts of varieties of plants and some are less greedy in water. A good point for maintenance and for the planet.
Grasses, heucheras, Cape fuchsias require little water or, at least, are self-sufficient in the humidity provided by the morning dew.
The layout of the garden can be important. Here are Emmanuel Grosbois’ tips for the garden “at the water’s edge” in Cherveux
have plant cover to keep the feet cool and otherwise leave grass (see weeds) to keep the feet moist
Another solution: mulching
clay pebbles, slate mulch, plant mulch, hay, mowed grass
mulching retains moisture from watering and prevents evaporation (especially in summer)
mulching: all year round
pay attention to the types of mulch so as not to change the nature of the ground
Emmanuel recommends flax mulching (or hemp) because it is a neutral material or cocoa bark that does not acidify the soil
avoid mulching with softwood
