I wanted to do comicsthe show offered next weekend at the Ferme du Buisson, in Seine et Marne, by designer Philippe Dupuy, musician Dominique A and their friends draws its inspiration from childhood as much as from the films of Méliès and the mystery Picasso, the documentary by Henry-Georges Clouzot, which follows the creation of the master’s paintings.
On the stage, between pictorial gesture and pop and jazz flights, the artists tell how their passion was revealed from their early years. Philippe Dupuy remembers that, when he was little, he drew all the time, lying on the ground. He remembers the curve of his mother’s legs and the patterns of the carpet. Pianist Stephan Oliva rediscovers the little mauve organ on which he loved to compose. The most disturbing is undoubtedly Dominique A who makes hear, on a mini tape recorder, the trace of his child’s voice. The worn magnetic tape restores themes that he will take up in the pieces that today give him a place at the forefront of French song.
The voices and the music accompany each other, respond to each other. And imagine that, as a child, each of them wanted to do comics.
When I met Stephan Oliva and Dominique A, I realized that the fact that they wanted to do comics when they were young completely colored their work as musicians.
