The prices of road fuels sold in French service stations fell last week, against a backdrop of falling crude prices and the implementation of the government rebate, according to official figures published on Monday.
The liter of diesel thus fell sharply to 1.8910 euros on average over the past week, i.e. 22.55 cents less than the previous week (-10.7%), according to weekly figures from the Ministry of Ecological Transition arrested on Friday. The liter of super unleaded 95, for its part, fell to 1.8324 euros, i.e. 17 cents less (-8.6%) and that of super SP 95-E10 at 1.7839 euros (-18 cents, -8.4%).
The government has put in place a discount of 15 to 18 cents including tax per liter of fuel at the pump, starting last Friday and for four months, to help motorists cope with soaring prices. The price displayed at the pump includes this discount. The distributors themselves benefited upstream from the discount, at central purchasing level.
The crude oil price, which rose after Russia invaded Ukraine, was also trending lower last week. The United States and the other member countries of the International Energy Agency (IEA) have indeed announced that they were going to draw a little more from their strategic reserves to stabilize the market.
