The son of Abdelhakim Sefrioui, one of the men indicted in the case of the assassination of Professor Samuel Paty, was released on Wednesday March 30 without any charges being brought against him at this stage, franceinfo learned from source close to the investigation. He was taken into custody late Saturday morning. According to this source, the investigators wanted to know “if he had been his father’s cameraman” in the video where the latter talks about the case.

Islamist activist Abdelhakim Sefrioui was indicted in October 2020 for “complicity in assassination in connection with a terrorist enterprise”, a few days after the assassination of Professor Paty. He is notably implicated for having participated in the mobilization against the teacher, accompanied to the college the father of the family who came to complain about the behavior of the teacher and posted a video on social networks. Last June, the Paris Court of Appeal rejected the request for cancellation of this indictment. His lawyer, Maître Elise Arfi, had indicated that his client was going to appeal to the Court of Cassation.

On October 16, 2020, history and geography professor Samuel Paty, 47, was stabbed and then beheaded near his college in Conflans-Sainte-Honorine (Yvelines), by Abdoullakh Anzorov, a Russian refugee of Chechen origin, killed shortly afterwards by the police. The 18-year-old man, radicalized, accused him of having shown caricatures of Muhammad in class. In an audio message in Russian, he claimed responsibility for his gesture, congratulating himself on having “avenge the prophet”.
