A positive balance. The final collection of the 2021 edition of the Telethon amounted to 85.93 million euros, or 12 million more than the pledges made during the television event last December, according to figures made public on Wednesday March 30 by the AFM-Téléthon association . The counter is almost back to the level before the Covid-19 pandemic: the 2020 edition was only able to raise 77 million euros, or 10 million less than in 2019.
In 2020, because of the Covid-19, this popular event had been reduced to its retransmission on the channels of France Télévisions and to challenges on the internet. The event was able in December 2021 to reinvest the cities and villages of France. Despite inclement weather in many departments, events were able to take place in nearly 10,000 municipalities. Sponsored by rapper Soprano, the 35th edition of the Telethon highlighted the volunteers, researchers and families mobilized for this charity marathon.
“In the particularly uncertain context in which we live, it is comforting to note, once again, that solidarity and generosity are sure and widely shared values.reacted Laurence Tiennot-Herment, the president of the AMF-Téléthon. This Telethon 2021 made it possible to rediscover the conviviality of the animations and the pleasure of being together. It is this collective strength that enables patients and researchers to move mountains and win initial victories against the disease! And it’s the one that will allow us to multiply them!”
