The 24-year-old woman killed Tuesday evening in the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough was stabbed to death by her ex-roommate after a violent argument “in a marital context”. François Pelletier, a 36-year-old man, is charged with premeditated murder in connection with this case.
The scene sent chills to the many McGill University students who live in the area. “From inside, I saw a young woman running on the sidewalk, she looked hurt, I couldn’t see well. It was when the paramedics arrived that I understood that she was fleeing, ”says Julianna, who lives close to the scene of the tragedy.
“Certain elements make us think that this is a homicide perpetrated in a context of domestic violence,” said Véronique Dubuc, spokesperson for the SPVM.
The violent altercation allegedly occurred on Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. between the 36-year-old suspect and Romane Bonnier, 24, on Aylmer Street, near Milton Street. The man allegedly stabbed the young woman several times after waiting for her near her home.
He is scheduled to appear Wednesday afternoon at the Montreal courthouse. A first degree murder charge has been filed against him.
According to our information, a conflict between the young woman and her alleged attacker began shortly before the murder.
“Montreal witnessed another femicide last night. My thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the young woman who succumbed to her injuries. […] Feminicides must stop immediately, ”denounced the mayoress of Montreal, Valérie Plante, on her Twitter account.
This stabbing murder is the second to occur this week in the metropolis.
