The statistics are staggering: Branco Van den Boomen has scored 12 goals and provided 17 assists this season in Ligue 2. All in 30 league matches. In Auxerre, his TFC has taken a big step towards Ligue 1.
Branco, you win a crucial match today…
“It was a six-point game. A big game, it was a good game for us in the first half. We had control, we had a bit of luck with the penalty. On the other hand, the second half weather was not good. It’s still a big win.”
Two more goals scored. Where are you going to stop?
“I’m going to continue for another eight matches, then I stop! (laughs). I have the ‘momentum’ at the moment. I feel really good. I’m very lucky I think.”
Tell us about this second goal?
“It’s not my usual style. I saw space and decided to run for the goal. A Dennis Bergkamp-style goal! I’m a big fan.”
The supporters have been dedicating a song to you for several weeks. What does it do?
“It’s amazing. It’s like you’re a child and you’re dreaming. To see so many people chanting my name… Of course I’m very happy for me. It’s a lot of work, I come from the Dutch second division. If you believe in yourself, you get great things.”
And the next step is what?
“I’ll see what happens. I’m very happy in Toulouse, I want to play in Ligue 1. But it’s football, you never know. I can tell you now that I’m staying in Toulouse but if something else big happens, you have to think about it too. We’ll see later, I want to win a title with TFC first.”
