Cannabis Infused Drinks | Ottawa wants to relax purchasing rules

(Toronto) The federal government is considering regulatory changes that could allow Canadians to purchase more cannabis beverages without exceeding public possession limits.

A proposal shared this month in the Canada Gazette would change the way the cannabis content of drinks is calculated and allow more drinks to be purchased at once.

The proposal would make one gram of dried cannabis equivalent to 570 grams of a cannabis drink, an increase from the current rule, which states that a 70 gram drink equals one gram of dried cannabis.

The change is important because the Cannabis law prohibits Canadians from transporting more than 30g of dried cannabis, or its “equivalent”, at a time.

Under the proposal, which is subject to a 45-day consultation period, the amount of cannabis drinks adults could possess would increase from 2.1 liters to 17.1 litres.

Cannabis companies and retailers have been calling for this change for a long time, since current regulations allow people to buy far more vaping, oil vaporizers and edibles than drinks.
