Mysterious, secretive, some would say paranoid, Vladimir Putin makes it a point of honor to remain an enigma for many observers. It must be said that the opaque personality of the Russian president has certain gray areas. It is also rumored that the decisions of the head of the Kremlin would be motivated by a worrying state of health. For several years, at regular intervals, rumors have been swirling, sometimes suffering from cancer or Parkinson’s disease. Allegations which intensified with the entry into the war against Ukraine.
Asked on set about Vladimir Putin’s state of health, Sergei Jirnov, a former KGB spy, said: “He is puffy, he has completely changed. […] They say he is ill. On the other hand, if it’s just cancer, it doesn’t matter because Mitterrand had cancer for fourteen years. He served two terms with cancer […]“, he explains before specifying: “My Kremlin source has been saying this for three years […] That he is going to die, that he is sick. But they started saying he was going to die in three weeks, in a month and so on. And he’s been there for three years, so we’re still wary. And then he is treated anyway, by Israeli and Russian doctors.”
But psychologists have looked into another disorder that could affect Vladimir Putin’s mental health: Hubris syndrome. The concept of Hubris comes from Greek philosophy. In tragedies, the Hubris syndrome allows the hero to narrate his great epics by rising to the rank of the gods. Research has found several common traits in people with the condition: narcissistic behavior, challenging the law, and personality cults. The fact of humiliating his collaborators, the lack of confidence within a team or even paranoia are also signs of this personality disorder which could affect the Russian president.
