At 17th day of conflict in Ukraine, Doctors Without Borders evokes a desperate situation, Saturday, March 12. Mariupol has been under siege for 12 days now, and the fighting continues.
March 11 at Mariupol (Ukraine)ofs pictures show a Russian tank hidden behind a building. On several occasions, he opened fire on a residential building, reducing the apartments to ashes. Since the 12th day of the siege, Mariupol is the scene of intense guerrilla fighting between Russian troops and Ukrainian soldiers. Civilians are direct victims. In a hospital, a woman cries for one of her children. “We were at my brother’s all together (…) there were mortar fire on the building, we were trapped in the basement, two children died“, she says in tears.
On March 11, a provisional toll reported 1,600 civilians killed in Mariupol. The figure probably increased on Saturday March 12. The population has no more heating, no more electricity and no drinking water. In an attempt to supply the city besieged, buses charged of water and food left from a town north of Mariupol.
