How to germinate seeds

End of winter, we want to go down to the garden and yet we will have to wait a little longer. We might as well take advantage of this time to take care of the seeds. What can we sow at home?

Think of pumpkin seeds: butternut squash, pumpkin and company, but also tomatoes.

This is the advice of the day from Emmanuel Grosbois of the A Fleur d’Eau garden in Cherveux (79).

And we need cups: plastic? Not great for the environment, Emmanuel prefers coconut fiber or flax pots which have the advantage of being able to be planted in the ground in a few weeks as they are, since they are biodegradable.

Put 3 seeds per pot, so you are almost sure that there will be at least one plant per container.

What do our seeds need? Light, humidity and constant heat. So let’s place our buckets filled with potting soil near a window, spray water regularly but do not water them at first so as not to rot them, as for the heat, we must find a place between 16 and 20° .

In a few weeks when the tomato plants really look like tomato plants and after the last frosts, we can plant them in the garden.

Thank you Emmanuel Grosbois.
