The world price of wheat broke a new record, due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine. Something to worry about the whole industry in France.
Since the start of the armed conflict in Ukraine, this mill manager has had his eyes fixed on the price of wheat. “Wheat is above 300 euros, it’s a price never reached”, confides Sébastien Corréard, director of a flour mill. The wheat used for the flour is purchased from local farmers, but this does not exempt the company from being subject to the world price of wheat. As the market price rises, the bill could also rise for the mill’s 500 baker customers.
“We are very attentive to everything that is happening, the wheat we crush about 60 tonnes a day. We may also be forced to pass on increases in April or July“, says Sébastien Corréard. In addition to the price of the raw material, another increase is considered worrying by the company: that of gas.
