The armed conflict between Russia and Ukraine will have consequences “deep and lasting on our lives“. This is the observation made by Emmanuel Macron in his speech after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, this Thursday, February 24, 2022. An observation shared by French road professionals. Increase in the price of petrol, tires and shortage of AdBlue (used in the selective catalytic reduction process), the main points of uncertainty of François Cenut, regional delegate of the National Federation of Road Transport in Limousin.
France Bleu Limousin – Is there any particular concern over the price of gasoline when Russia is one of the biggest oil exporters in the world?
François Cenut – Of course! We had already alerted the public authorities at the beginning of the year after the price increase, but with this crisis, this problem will become more serious in the days to come. As we have seen, on the first day of the invasion, the price of a cubic meter of diesel increased by 100 euros. No one is able to say where we are headed. If the situation really does not relax quickly, the liter of diesel at two euros, we are going there with great strides. It will be complicated for everyone, for everyone who takes the car.
FBL – Is there a disaster scenario for the sector?
FC – Since energy is the main component of our work, the cost price is bound to increase. But you should also know that oil is not just the source of diesel, we use oils, tires and we are particularly concerned about AdBlue (an additive that is added to vehicles to limit Pollution). AdBlue has increased considerably in recent times since the manufacturing process means that there is a large consumption of gas, but here we even wonder if we will not suffer a shortage of AdBlue because only China and Russia export it. Without this product, we cannot ride.
