Saguenéens: a second defeat to complete the trip

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens suffered a 6-3 loss to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Sunday at the Sports Rousseau Center of Excellence in Boisbriand. The Sags lost a second straight game on the road after a loss the day before in Gatineau.

The Armada opened the scoring midway through the first period. Jonathan Fauchon skillfully outsmarted Saguenéens goalkeeper Kevyn Brassard. The locals came back to the charge in the second period, while Philippe Fauchon fired a shot that took the Saguenean goalkeeper by surprise.

However, the representatives of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean immediately responded through Andrei Loshko. The Belarus striker has flashed the red light for a fourth time this season.

Montreal’s North Shore team’s one-goal lead didn’t last long as Gendron and Myklukha scored their 14th and 12th goals respectively.

Both lineups eventually returned to the locker room with the scoreboard showing 4-1 in favor of Bruce Richardson’s men.

Gendron moved the ropes for the second time in the match at the start of the third period. Alex Blais and Fabrice Fortin gave their side some hope by going 5-3 late in the game.

However, it was too late for the team of captain Michaël Pellerin who saw the Armada quietly save themselves with a 6-3 victory and two additional points in the general classification.

Failing defensive

Yanick Jean’s troop has had a lot of difficulties in its defensive zone for a few games and this confrontation against Blainville-Boisibriand was no exception. The Sags gave away shots, while leaving their opponents alone against Kevyn Brassard on multiple occasions.

The Saguenéens defense has allowed three or more goals in its last 13 games. The last game in which they limited their opponent to less than three goals dates back to December 5, when the Bleuets won 4-2 against the Océanic. Chicoutimi has also allowed 14 goals in its last three games.

The two teams will meet again on Wednesday, this time at the Center Georges-Vézina in Chicoutimi.
