Now that he has immersed moviegoers in the universe imagined by Frank Herbert, Denis Villeneuve believes that “it will be possible to go deeper into certain details” for this second film, he said in an interview granted at Empire.
“New characters will be introduced in this second installment. I made the decision early on that the first part was going to focus on Paul Atreides and the Bene Gesserit as well as his experience of coming into contact with a different culture for the first time. The second part will touch the Harkonnens much more,” he revealed.
The filming of Dunes 2 must begin by the end of the summer, pandemic permitting.
“The film will be more challenging, but we know where we are going. The screenplay is written. I feel confident. The only big unknown for me is the pandemic,” he told Empire.
This second film “will be even bigger and even more ambitious” than the first, promised Denis Villeneuve last October, in an interview with The Press.
Recall that the first part, starring Timothée Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson in particular, garnered ten nominations for the 94and Oscar ceremony.
Dune—Part Two is due to open in October 2023.
