COVID-19: Canada has strict rules

Canada is one of the most stringent countries in the world when it comes to health rules.

This observation appears in the light of the “COVID-19 health measures rigor index” developed by the University of Oxford.

This statistic ranks the severity of health measures from the weakest to the most intense index, from 0 to 100. This index includes nine indicators, such as the closure of schools, workplaces or travel restrictions.

Canada ranks 5th in the world in this regard, only surpassed by Fiji and Kiribati, as well as Bhutan and Myanmar.

Within Canada, the Atlantic provinces are currently subject to the strictest rules (56.93), according to a separate analysis by the Bank of Canada. The Prairie provinces are the least constrained by these health measures (38.21).

Quebec ranks second in this table, with an index of 55.77.
