This was reported Monday by the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ). In a press briefing, its leader, Denis Turcotte, said he was proud of the work done by the police.

“I want to highlight the excellent work of the police, their ability to anticipate the situation we were facing,” he said.

“I believe we can say that we have achieved the objectives that we set ourselves,” he added.

In the end, the police made three arrests on Saturday, including one for obstruction, and the towing of a vehicle.

They issued 50 tickets under municipal rules, 72 tickets under the Highway Safety Code and 48 parking tickets.

The demonstration in Quebec went well, according to the police chief, who maintains that it is thanks to the “collaboration” between the demonstrators and the police.

Recall that thousands of demonstrators had made an appointment near the National Assembly, at the very place where families came to celebrate the opening of the Carnival of Quebec.

No unfortunate incidents were reported. The atmosphere over the weekend was generally festive and friendly; however, several made aggressive remarks towards the media and the authorities.

The last demonstrators-truckers left the sector on Sunday, at the end of the day. They promised to return in even greater numbers in two weeks.

Bernard Gauthier, one of the organizers of the demonstration, invited governments to reflect in the meantime on the demands raised by the demonstrators.

On Monday, the head of the SPVQ said that the police will be ready to welcome the demonstrators in two weeks.

“If there is another gathering that occurs in the city, as there are several every year on our territory, we will be there to respond to it,” he said.

Prime Minister François Legault wanted to congratulate the police on Sunday evening for their work.
