Patrick Balkany will be imprisoned on Monday February 7 at the Fleury-Mérogis remand center (Essonne), announced the prosecutor of Evreux. The former mayor of Levallois-Perret (Hauts-de-Seine), sentenced to 3 years in prison for “massive tax evasion”was summoned by the magistrate after seeing his placement under an electronic bracelet revoked on Thursday, February 3.
The Balkany couple had been accused by Dominique Puechmaille, public prosecutor of Evreux, of “play with fire” because “they never wanted to respect this electronic bracelet” which had been granted to them as an adjustment to their sentence. The prosecution had up to five days from the revocation of these bracelets to order the incarceration.
His wife Isabelle Balkany, also affected by this revocation, is still hospitalized. She had been taken to hospital after news of the decision, and a post on Twitter reminiscent of one she posted on Facebook before her suicide attempt in early May 2019.
Patrick Balkany has already been imprisoned in September 2019 after his conviction for tax evasion, but he was released after five months under judicial supervision for health reasons. Isabelle Balkany was sentenced to three years in prison without a warrant. On May 27, 2020, the Balkany spouses were sentenced on appeal to five and four years in prison respectively, without immediate imprisonment, for “aggravated money laundering of tax evasion” and “illegal taking of interest”. They had been placed under an electronic bracelet in March 2021.
