A booty of 160,000 euros seized and a Russian national placed in police custody, this is the result of a check by the soldiers of the motorized platoon of Saint-Julien-en-Genevois on Wednesday at the Viry tollbooth on the A40 (Haute -Savoie), reports France Bleu Pays de Savoie on Sunday February 6.
The 28-year-old man, residing in Geneva, is suspected of laundering money from drug trafficking. He was checked on his way back from Paris. Intrigued, the customs officers decide to search his vehicle, a Mercedes registered in Switzerland. A dog team discovers six grams of cannabis resin and 160,000 euros in small denominations. The man of Russian origin could not justify the provenance.
Heard by investigators from the Local Flow Control Group 74 (GLCF 74), and the judicial customs service of Lyon, the man explained that he was a gemologist, a specialist in precious stones. Presented to the Thonon-les-Bains prosecutor’s office at the end of his police custody, he was imprisoned. He will be judged in immediate appearance Monday, February 7 before the criminal court of Thonon-les-Bains.
