“The care is free, it’s the French tradition, the ethics”, declared Thursday January 27 on franceinfo Jean-François Eliaou, LREM deputy for Hérault, immunologist, doctor and head of service at the Montpellier University Hospital Center, concerning the declarations of the boss of the AP-HP, Martin Hirsch who s questions about the maintenance of free hospital care for non-vaccinated people, on the set of “C à Vous” on France 5, evoking a “delicate debate”.

“Martin Hirsch has the right to question himself, I don’t question myself in that sense, as a doctor, I don’t even ask myself the question”, continued Jean-François Eliaou, specifying that he was “favorable to the vaccination pass” who is “a measure of everyday life”. According to him, “when you get sick, it’s the hospital, care for everyone and you don’t ask yourself the question”. “As a doctor, I accept, I treat and I don’t argue”, he added, while recalling that we are not asking to pay more “to someone who drinks or smokes in the event of an accident”. “There he [Martin Hirsch] is very annoyed to answer because he has no answer”, said the deputy doctor.
“There is a civic responsibility” not to be vaccinated, he admitted, however, recalling that “vaccination is an element of protection of oneself and others”, hence the importance, according to him, of the vaccination pass. “But it’s not about going as far as care”, insisted Jean-François Eliaou, according to whom, it is only necessary “prevention” to convince people that vaccination is “a treatment that prevents serious forms”.
