A man stole a car on Sunday January 23 in Roullet-Saint-Estèphe (Charente), while a four-year-old girl was asleep in the back. The thief brought the vehicle back to the parents’ home, reports France Bleu La Rochelle.
The child’s father was about to leave in the car with his daughter, when he returned briefly to his home to take his cell phone. Returning, he discovers that the vehicle has disappeared with the child on board.
The thief fled while the father had taken with him the card, which acts as a key, of his Renault Scenic. “On this type of vehicle, when you remove the card, you can still drive if the engine is not off”, specify the gendarmes of Angoulême to France Bleu La Rochelle.
The thief ended up bringing the car back 30 m from the home, twenty minutes later. The gendarmes estimate that he had not noticed the presence of the child. The little girl was sleeping and “realized nothing”, according to the Angoulême gendarmerie. An investigation has been opened to find the thief. The gendarmes also brought in dog handlers and criminal investigation technicians to look for clues in the vehicle.
