A summer like this, a feature film that Denis Côté shot last summer in the Laurentians, was selected in the official competition of the Berlin festival. American filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense, Servant) will preside over the jury of the first of the three biggest European film festivals held during the year.

Starring Larissa Corriveau, Laure Giappiconi and Aude Mathieu, on 14and feature film by Denis Côté recounts the emotional journey of three young women who, for 26 days, explore their sexual discomfort in a nursing home. Under the quiet supervision of a German therapist (Anne Ratte Polle) and a benevolent social worker (Samir Guesmi), the three protagonists try to tame their intimate demons. The filmmaker, revealed at the Locarno festival in 2005 thanks to his first feature film, The Nordic states, this time makes sexuality the central theme of his new opus.
For the seventh time in 10 years, since the presentation of Bestiary in 2012, Denis Côté will have the honor of launching a film at the Berlinale. It is also a fourth selection in official competition. In 2013, Vic+Flo saw a bear, won the Silver Bear for most innovative film. Boris without Beatrice was nominated for the Golden Bear in 2016, along with Directory of disappeared towns three years later. Social hygiene won last year the prize for the direction of the Encounters program, a parallel section reserved for works with more daring formal and narrative proposals.
Let us also recall the selection, already announced, of the Quebec series Raspberry time, which will close the Berlinale Series strand on February 16. Directed by Philippe Falardeau, who had the honor of opening the Berlinale two years ago with My Salinger Year (just before the world went on hiatus due to the pandemic), this series is written by Florence Longpré (Can you hear me ?) and Suzie Bouchard (eye of the storm). Starring Sandrine Bisson, Edison Ruiz, Micheline Lanctôt, Elijah Patrice and Paul Doucet, Raspberry time will be launched in the German capital as a world premiere, two months before its broadcast on the Club illico platform.
The 72and Berlinale will open on February 10 with peter von kant, a film by François Ozon starring Isabelle Adjani and Denis Ménochet. A tribute will also be paid to Isabelle Huppert.
