“The company must take note of this and finally act to restore their quality of life to the surrounding districts. I hope that the company will take its responsibilities, once and for all, otherwise we will continue to hound it relentlessly until it complies, ”reacted Tuesday morning, the mayor of Montreal, Valérie Plante, by communicated.

Sanimax specializes in the recovery of dead farm animals, used cooking oil or hides and organic matter. However, residents of the area have been complaining for years about foul odors that affect their quality of life.

Incidents where trucks overturned carcasses on the roads did nothing to improve the mood of local residents.

In its judgment, the court recognizes that odors are a polluting agent in themselves and that it is legitimate to want to measure and control them.

“The citizens of Rivière-des-Prairies have reason to rejoice in these unequivocal judgments. These judgments give us additional tools to give them the quality of life they are entitled to expect,” said Caroline Bourgeois, mayor of the borough of Rivière-des-Prairies – Pointe-aux- Aspen.
