IQALUIT, Nunavut – The City of Iqaluit is investigating again after receiving more than 20 complaints from residents who still report gasoline odors in tap water.
Residents of this Nunavut town of 8,000 were unable to drink tap water for nearly two months last fall after fuel was found in drinking water in October.
This order was lifted on December 10. The City has installed two real-time water monitoring systems in its treatment plant.
However, dozens of residents complained this week on social networks that the tap water smelled of fuel again.
The city said employees were taking samples, but could not enter homes to test tap water, due to the pandemic lockdown in Nunavut.
City authorities say staff are also analyzing samples collected from the monitoring system and in the city.
It is not known when the results of these analyzes will be known.
