Imagine being diagnosed with cancer. Imagine the shock. Now imagine being diagnosed with breast cancer just a few weeks before welcoming a newborn… Geneviève Everell, aka Miss Sushi, experienced this shock and testifies to it in the documentary series Mom is sick.
Accustomed to the media and to showing her daily life online, Geneviève Everell did not hesitate to live out her personal drama in front of a camera. Mom is sickof which we were able to see two of the five episodes, follows her step by step through the illness: to the doctor, to her exams, at home with her lover and her first child. Then, with her brand new baby. The speech is frank, the emotions too.
The entrepreneur tells on screen that she did not hesitate to embark on the documentary adventure, even if she did not know what awaited her. She needed to do something. To give meaning, too, to what she was experiencing. Telling her story immediately seemed like the right thing to do so that other women undergoing cancer treatment at a pivotal time in their lives would feel less alone.
She and her partner Nicholas were not able to have a honeymoon with their little girl born at the beginning of 2024. As soon as the child was born, the mother had to undergo chemotherapy treatments. The arrival of a baby already turns your life upside down. Welcoming it in such a context requires both dedication and a great deal of letting go.
The feeling of closeness with Geneviève Everell, her entourage and her healthcare team constitutes the great particularity of Mom is sick. She doesn’t recount what she went through afterwards, she literally lives it before our eyes. Which gives strength to the point, even if we have known since the end of summer that Miss Sushi is out of danger.
What we notice, in addition to the resilience of the sick mother and her partner, is the kindness of the nursing staff and the existence of resources for sick people. Geneviève Everell exchanges in particular with a “breast sister”, that is to say a woman who has gone through the same ordeal as her and who can really understand what she is experiencing and feeling.
This support will have visibly touched Geneviève Everell: the synopsis of the fifth episode, which we have not seen and which will not be broadcast until January 2025, suggests that she herself has become a “breast sister » and that she supports a woman battling breast cancer.
Remember that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Geneviève Everell was also chosen to appear in the current issue of the magazine Winkwhich also presents the testimonies of four other women who have experienced such cancer.
