Russia continues its advance on Ukrainian territory. The Russian army claimed, on Monday October 14, the capture of a new village in the Zaporizhzhia region, in the south of Ukraine, at a time when its troops are simultaneously encroaching on ground in the east of the country. Russian forces “liberated the locality of Levadne (…) and took more favorable positions”said the Russian Defense Ministry.

Levadne, which is approximately equidistant between the towns of Zaporizhia and Donetsk, was recaptured by the Ukrainian army from Russian forces in June 2023, during a counter-offensive in this area of the front which, however, had very limited success.

The Russian army, which controls nearly 20% of Ukrainian territory, has been on the offensive for almost a year. It is progressing more particularly in Donbass, in the east of the country, towards Pokrovsk, a strategic rail and road crossroads for Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at the end of last week that he wanted the war with Russia to end in 2025, even though the demands of kyiv and Moscow for peace still seem irreconcilable at this stage.
