Nine young people were taken into care by social services after attacking police officers and causing damage to premises at the Gouvernail rehabilitation center, in the Beauport sector, in Quebec.
Police officers arrived on the scene around 8:30 p.m., Sunday evening, regarding a “disorder call,” explains the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ) in a press release. Things got out of hand there. “Faced with the aggressiveness of the young people”, the police had to “use pepper spray as a means of dispersal”, indicates the SPVQ. An electric shock weapon was used on two teenagers.
There is no fear for anyone’s life after this altercation. However, three young people suffered minor injuries related to broken windows. A youth center worker also had to be evaluated after suffering injuries.
“Charges could be brought against the young people involved,” reveals the SPVQ, which will conduct an investigation into the event.
After the police intervention, firefighters from the Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ) intervened at the youth center to ventilate the premises, taking into account the use of cayenne pepper.
