Early Sunday morning, the National Hockey League (NHL) awarded an assist to Lane Hutson on Emil Heineman’s net, giving him two against the Ottawa Senators.
The little defenseman was everywhere on the ice Saturday night in the Montreal Canadiens’ 4-1 victory. We already knew that he was an accomplice in Alex Newhook’s net in the third period, but this news on the numerical advantage in the first period adds another layer to his excellent start to the season.

Now he has just established a Habs record for the most assists in his first five career games, with six. The previous mark of five belonged to John Chabot and Joel Hanley.
With four points to his record in 2024-2025, Hutson is also first in points for rookies and only behind Shea Theodore (5) among defensemen.
Quite a start for the 20-year-old athlete, who, remember, was a second-round pick in the 2022 draft.
