The football match organized between French and Spanish content creators at Civitas Metropolitano, the Atlético de Madrid stadium, on Saturday October 12, was interrupted for several minutes at the start of the second period, due to racist gestures targeting a player black of the French team. “Brawks” identified the Spanish supporter in the stands and confronted him, repeating the monkey signs (hands under the armpits) while pointing at him. Moments later, players from both teams returned to the locker rooms, interrupting the match in the 57th minute, with Spain leading 1-0.
“I apologize. I brought you here and you are being insulted”declared Aminematue the streamer and organizer of the event on the French side, addressing the stands. “This is the first time that I have been a victim of racism and racism has no place in sport. We came to play football, we have great values”regretted Brawks, who also took the microphone while addressing the stadium, before the match resumed.
This is not the first case of racist acts observed in the stands of football stadiums in Spain. The Brazilian player of Real Madrid, Vinicius Junior, has been a victim of this on numerous occasions. Last September, a Mallorca supporter was notably sentenced to one year in prison [lien en Espagnol] after repeated insults against several black La Liga players.
