Quebec-Lévis | Quebec launches a call for international interest for the third link

(Quebec) The Minister of Transport, Geneviève Guilbault, will soon survey the international market for her megaproject of a third highway link between Quebec and Lévis.

A call for international interest will be launched, and the signing of the contract is planned for 2027, representatives of his ministry explained during a technical briefing session in Quebec on Friday.

Remember that last June, after several procrastinations, the Legault government relaunched its project for a third highway link, even though the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec – and almost all the experts – recommended against it.

Prime Minister François Legault then spoke of “economic security”; according to him, the Quebec region needs another bridge to the east, near Île d’Orléans, to ensure the transport of goods by truck in the event that the Pierre-Laporte bridge closes.

On Friday, the Ministry of Transport did not rule out anything, including the possibility of building future infrastructure downtown and including lanes reserved for public transportation.
