Dominique Bernard’s wife creates a literary prize for adolescents

The wife of Dominique Bernard, French teacher killed on October 13, 2023 in Arras by a radicalized former student, created a literary prize for short stories, written by adolescents, to bring to life the values ​​embodied by her husband, she said. we learned Thursday October 10 from his lawyer.

“My client wants to bring to life the republican values ​​for which her husband died” and contribute to “to make you think” teenagers, Isabelle Bernard’s lawyer, Richard Malka, explained to AFP.

Launched on September 30, this literary prize, which bears the name of Dominique Bernard, is intended for 4th, 3rd and 2nd grade classes and this year only concerns Arrageois, public and private establishments under contract. The first edition, organized by the Lire, Penser, Écrire association launched for the occasion, has the theme of tolerance, according to Me Malka.

Thanks to a partner with the National Book Center (CNL), which partners with National Education, writers will visit classes to meet students participating in this prize. The initiative is intended to be extended to all of Hauts-de-de-France and beyond, “as far as possible, in the coming years”says Me Malka.

One year after the attack which took place at the Gambetta-Carnot school complex in Arras, a ceremony in tribute to Dominique Bernard must be held on Sunday October 13 in a central square in the city, in the presence of ministers of Interior Bruno Retailleau and National Education Anne Genetet.
