Rights violated | The DPJ of Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec placed under supervision

(Quebec) The Legault government has requested that the Youth Protection Department of Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec be placed under supervision, following revelations by The Press that she had violated the rights of dozens of children.

The minister’s office confirmed the information to La Presse, it had first been revealed by Radio-Canada. The decision was taken following the publication of a report which refers to a shocking document produced by the Commission on Human Rights and Youth Rights of Quebec, and which reveals in particular that children placed too quickly in mixed banking with a view to being adopted.

Reports containing false information have also been knowingly filed in court by workers, often too poorly trained and who maintain prejudices against parents from “the system”.

For Mr. Carmant, this situation was “untenable”, indicates his office. It is also claimed that the situation has been problematic for a long time at the DPJ of Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec. Teams from other regions had been sent to stabilize the situation, and Quebec had changed the director, and added additional resources, “exceptional” measures which did not bear fruit, according to the minister’s team.

Lionel Carmant is scheduled to hold a press conference later today.
