This Monday, October 7, 2024 was a special day. In France as in the world, the day was marked by commemorations of the Hamas attack against Israel on October 7, 2023. Numerous rallies and speeches took place. In the Middle East, where the war continues, the Jewish state and Hezbollah continued to clash. Here’s what to remember from this day.

Many tributes around the world

From Paris to Tel Aviv via London, Sydney, Berlin, Buenos Aires and New York, numerous gatherings or ceremonies took place in tribute to the victims of Hamas. Israel commemorated this special day throughout the country, and notably in Reim, at the scene of the Nova music festival where at least 370 people were killed. The French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, was notably present at this tribute.

Benjamin Netanyahu swears that Israel will continue the fight

“We have defined the goals of the war and we are achieving them: to overthrow Hamas, to bring home all the hostages, the living and the dead. This is a sacred mission, we will not stop not until we have accomplished it“, declared the Israeli Prime Minister in a televised message. “We will continue to fight”, he added. Lors of this day of tributes, Benyamin Netanyahu has increased his speeches.

Emmanuel Macron met families of hostages

President Macron assured the families of the two Franco-Israeli hostages still held in Gaza that France was “everything done” for their release and insisted that she would continue to “beat relentlessly” against anti-Semitism, just like Michel Barnier. “He reiterated to the families present that France was doing everything possible to obtain a ceasefire and an agreement allowing the release of Ohad Yahalomi and Ofer Kalderon as a priority, and that it was pressing all parties to move forward in this direction without further delay.”specified the Elysée.

In addition to the families of the two hostages, the Head of State met those of victims residing in France, including the mother of Orion Hernandez, deceased hostage, and relatives of Laurie Chouchana and Valentin Ghnassia, who died as a result of the attack of Hamas on October 7 in Israel.

Bombings continue in the Middle East

The Israeli army has increased its bombings in Lebanon. She claimed to have hit “more than 120 targets” of the Shiite movement in southern Lebanon. According to the Lebanese news agency ANI, the Israeli air force notably carried out “six strikes” successive attacks on the southern suburbs of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold. The Israeli army also announced the establishment of four “closed military zones” in the northeast of Israel.

Lebanese Hezbollah claimed to have fired a salvo of rockets towards the main Israeli military intelligence base, Glilot, near Tel Aviv. This military intelligence base would also house, according to Israeli media, the headquarters of Mossad, Israeli foreign intelligence. The pro-Iranian Islamist movement had already announced that it had targeted this base in August and October.
