Emmanuel Macron now believes that the priority is to return to a political solution to resolve the conflict between Hamas and Israel. The President of the Republic wants an end to arms deliveries to the Jewish state, an announcement which angered the Israeli Prime Minister.
Two days before the October 7 commemorations, Israel continues its air strikes and its ground offensive in Lebanon. On the afternoon of October 5, Emmanuel Macron called for de-escalation, and proposed, on France Inter, to return “to a political solution“while ceasing”to deliver the weapons to carry out the fighting in Gaza“.
In the Parisian demonstration to the Palestinian and Lebanese people, the declaration was rather well received. Manon Aubry, LFI MEP, however believes that France must go “to the end of his approach”.
Although Paris assures that it does not deliver weapons to Israel, Emmanuel Macron’s comments have triggered the ire of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who believes that “all civilized countries should stand firmly with Israel”. In the evening, the Elysée deplored the excessive words of Benjamin Netanyahu and reaffirmed that France remains an unwavering friend of Israel.
