A violent fire completely destroyed a century-old church in Trois-Rivières on Thursday. It was under construction for conversion into housing.
Built just before the First World War in a working-class neighborhood, the enormous church inspired by the neo-Romanesque style, called “Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Allégresses”, will be nothing more than a memory.
The flames reduced the entire imposing building to ashes. The fire required numerous alerts and the evacuation of surrounding businesses.
Inside, the church featured works by the Italian-born artist Guido Nincheri (1885-1973). This renowned decorator painted the vaults of the church in 1926.
