A police intervention carried out at the Cégep de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield forced the closure of the establishment Friday morning. A suspect has been arrested in connection with this case.
Around 6:15 a.m., police officers from the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) were called to go to the CEGEP, located on Rue Champlain in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, in relation to an individual who had allegedly injured an employee of the establishment.
“A perimeter was set up and the premises were quickly secured so that no one could enter or leave the establishment, not knowing the intentions of the individual,” explains the SQ.
The suspect was eventually located and arrested. He was then transported to hospital “to receive treatment appropriate to his condition,” the police force said.
The victim, for his part, was hospitalized to treat injuries that were not life-threatening.
On its Facebook page, the Cégep de Salaberry-de-Valleyfield indicates that classes and activities are suspended for the day. “The library will be closed for the moment. The study centers remain open and classes and activities continue,” we can also read.
