(Montreal) The general director of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), Marie-Claude Léonard, and Mayor Valérie Plante will hold a press conference Friday morning to take stock of the closure of three metro stations located in eastern end of the blue line.
The STM announced Thursday evening that it had to urgently close the Fabre, Iberville and Saint-Michel stations, on the blue line, after discovering a “significant deterioration of certain main beams above the footbridge” of Saint-Michel station.
The Saint-Michel station therefore had to be closed “following the assessment of the engineering teams”. Consequently, Fabre and Iberville stations also had to be closed to allow the reversal of trains which continue to serve the rest of the blue line.
This is a closure “for an indefinite period”. The STM will carry out further assessments to determine the work that will be necessary, “which will likely take several days, even weeks”.
Mme Plant and Mme Léonard, who will be accompanied by the chairman of the STM board of directors Éric Alan Caldwell, will meet journalists at 10:30 a.m. near Saint-Michel station to take stock of the situation.
Mme Léonard must also be at Saint-Michel station around 7:30 a.m. for a first press scrum.
“STM teams are working to restore service as soon as possible,” assured Mayor Plante on the social network X Thursday evening.
A shuttle bus service, line 809, was put in place on Thursday evening. The bus stops at closed stations in both directions.
Another media event scheduled to take place Friday morning, concerning the extension of the blue line, has been canceled. The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Geneviève Guilbault, was to participate in this announcement.
