The deadly drone attack took place Thursday, October 3, on a village in the Ukrainian region of Chernihiv, bordering Russia and Belarus. Three civilians, including a child, were killed and four others injured after a Russian drone hit a tanker carrying gas for the population in Hirsk, in the north of the country. When it exploded, the vehicle set fire to nearby houses, police explained on Telegram. The truck driver and his colleague, as well as a child born in 2018, were killed, according to the same source.

Four other people, including a 4-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, were injured, added the region’s governor, Viatcheslav Tchaous, denouncing “a horrible act of terrorism.” The injured were all hospitalized, the children’s condition being serious, he added.

The army, for its part, mentioned three FPV drones (“First person view” in English, either “immersion piloting”) involved in this attack. FPV drones allow their pilot to see live images of the terrain, as if he were on board.

Part of the Chernihiv region was occupied by Russia at the start of its invasion of Ukraine, launched in February 2022, before being recaptured by Ukrainian forces in April of the same year.
