Driven primarily by deputies from La France Insoumise, this procedure provided for in article 68 of the Constitution has little chance of success.

The proposed resolution to initiate impeachment proceedings against the President of the Republic will be examined on 2 October by the Laws Committee, announced the rapporteur of the text, Green MP Jérémie Iodarnoff, in a press release on Wednesday 25 September. The text, signed by 81 MPs including 72 from La France Insoumise, has little chance of succeeding, especially since it does not enjoy general support on the left.
The Socialist Party deputies had indeed decided on September 16 to vote in favor of the examination in committee of the LFI proposal to impeach Emmanuel Macron. But they will then vote against its adoption in the Assembly. In a statement, they believe that the procedure is “doomed to failure” and that it could give a form of “legitimacy” to the head of state. The proposal put forward by the Insoumis is expected to be long and difficult to adopt. To be adopted, it would ultimately require the approval of two-thirds of the parliamentarians of both chambers (National Assembly and Senate), meeting in the High Court.
