These students who choose to live in senior residences

While many students have to combine a job with their studies to pay for their accommodation, retirement homes are now offering to accommodate them in exchange for a few hours of work.

At a time when many students are having difficulty finding accommodation, particularly in the Paris region, there are a few who have found the right opportunity : live for free in a senior residence. In exchange for a few hours of work with seniors, some residences actually welcome students for free, thus promoting a mix of generations at the same time.

Their names are Monique, Michèle, Marie-Thérèse or Nicole, for them, it is out of the question now to miss the bowling tournament every Thursday on the Switch console. What motivates these ladies is in particular to be able to spend time with their instructor. “For a 19-year-old, it’s incredible that he can be interested in old people like us.”says Michèle, 94 years old.

“It’s still important to have contact with young people.”

Youth is Nolann, 19, a student of educational sciences. “It’s basically an activity for young people, seniors are interested in it, frankly I’m very surprised. It’s super impressive and very friendly, I love it”he confides.

Nolann also enjoys his living and study conditions: a brand new 35m2 apartment, free of charge, with access to the swimming pool, sauna and solarium in exchange for fifteen hours with the residents. He also takes part in a gardening workshop. Nolann, not far from having landed the ideal job.

“I think I couldn’t have dreamed of anything better, I have a student job and I live there, I have access to lots of things, it’s a chance.”
