A new stage in the economic war between Brussels and Beijing. Chinese vehicles will be subject to significant customs duties.

The European Union has raised its voice in the face of unfair competition from China in the electric vehicle sector. The European Commission has announced that it wants to significantly increase customs duties on Chinese manufacturers entering the domestic market. In retaliation, Beijing has announced restrictive measures concerning several products imported into its territory, including Cognac.

Cognac producers were in the streets and demonstrated their discontent with Chinese taxes. They are worried about a Chinese measure against brandy. Beijing is considering increasing taxes on Cognac by 35%. Another Chinese response is the opening of an anti-dumping investigation into pork imports from the European Union. This risks penalizing German, Spanish, and especially French breeders.
