The Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) is closing its service point located in Montreal North, due to allegations of corruption that are the subject of police investigations.
This was announced by the government agency in a press release on Tuesday. The SAAQ claims to have made its decision “following reports that were made to us concerning certain employees of the agent.” This branch is managed by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Montreal North (CCIMN).
“Our investigations department carried out checks and the results were serious enough for us to file an official complaint with the Anti-Corruption Commissioner (CLCC), the specialized police force that coordinates UPAC,” the company continued.
She said she ended her “business relationship” immediately “due to the breakdown of the bond of trust with this agent.”
One thing is certain: the closure “is effective and definitive as of now,” they say. Customers who already had appointments scheduled at this point of service, located at 5819, boulevard Léger “will be contacted to obtain a new date” at another point of service located nearby.
Cautiously, the company maintains that “this situation, although regrettable, recalls the importance of the control mechanisms in place to identify and limit the risks of embezzlement” in Quebec.
No further comments will be made “so as not to prejudice the ongoing police investigations or the judicial process,” the organization concluded.
