“This motion and this debate are a declaration of war on our institutions”reacted on Tuesday, September 17 Gabriel Attal, now head of the EPR group of deputies, in front of the Bureau of the National Assembly after the vote which validated the procedure for the dismissal of Emmanuel Macron, the franceinfo journalist learned on site from the participants.

“I don’t know if we are witnessing a farce or a tragedy.”added the former Prime Minister. “A farce, because even those who will vote for the debate on this motion recognize that it is grotesque, unfounded and that it has no chance of winning. A farce, because the only purpose of this vote is to offer in the chamber not a debate but a spectacle. But the reality is that this farce does not make anyone laugh,” launched Gabriel Attal. “Turning democracy into a farce, as some here want to do, is serious.”

By 12 votes (all NFP votes) to 10, the Bureau voted to send the impeachment motion for debate in the Laws Committee. “I find it serious, astonishing and sad that the Socialist Party is to this extent under the influence of one of its allies [LFI] to turn its back on its history and its values,” continued Gabriel Attal. “It is not the President of the Republic that is in question today. Nor even the legislative elections. It is a debate between those who believe in our institutions, in our Republic and want to respect them. And the agents of permanent destabilization, ready to do anything to prevent the country from functioning.”adds Gabriel Attal.
