A Christian’s rant!

Usually, when I write an open letter, I wear white gloves. I pamper my language. However, this time, because of my anger, allow me to not take all these precautions.

I am a believer and I regularly attend services at a Protestant church. I am also part of a group of Christian activists and feminists. I write spiritual poems that are shared virtually. Then, as if that were not enough, I contribute texts to a religious blog.

What do I think of this suggestion from M?me Amira Elghawaby’s request to include religion as a hiring criterion on campus? Aberrant! I join my voice to atheists, agnostics and people of faith like me who condemn this request from Ottawa’s representative in the fight against Islamophobia. I agree with Minister Jean-François Roberge, who calls this idea “toxic.”

Once again, people who believe in God, Allah or Yahweh are seen as fanatics. Is it necessary to point out that the majority of us are able to understand the challenges of the society in which we live? For example, many claim to be pro-choice and therefore do not camp in front of abortion clinics in order to intimidate pregnant women.

It’s true that we pray for many things… even for a 100% secular education system!
