83 people rescued Sunday off the coast of Nord and Pas-de-Calais

Eight people, however, died on Sunday while attempting to cross the Channel. On Saturday, rescuers pulled 200 people out of the water.

A few hours after the tragic shipwreck which left eight dead off the beach of Ambleteuse on the night of Saturday to Sunday off the coast of Pas-de-Calais, 83 other migrants were rescued on Sunday 15 December off the coast of Nord and Pas-de-Calais, the maritime prefecture of the Channel and the North Sea announced on Sunday evening.

“This Sunday, September 15, 2024, several migrant boat crossings took place between the French coasts of Pas-de-Calais (62) and Nord (59)”writes the maritime prefecture. The day before, two hundred people had been rescued at sea in the Pas-de-Calais region.

Sunday “66 people were rescued (…) by the French Navy off the coast of Le Portel” And “17 people were rescued off the coast of Dunkirk.” Moreover, “38 other passengers refused any assistance by French means and continued their navigation before finally being recovered by British means”concludes the prefecture.
