An accident between a truck and a Dirno patrol van took place this Friday at midday on the A84 near Saint-James in Manche, reports France Bleu Cotentin. There were no injuries. The motorway is partially closed for several more hours.
The accident occurred on the A84 in the direction of Caen-Rennes. The truck, which was travelling towards Caen, crossed the central rail separating the two directions of traffic on the four-lane motorway, before hitting a patrol vehicle from the North-West Roads Directorate (Dirno).
The 37-year-old driver of the lorry was freed and transported by the Smur to Avranches hospital. The two road workers were unharmed but shocked by the accident.
Since the accident, traffic has been severely disrupted in the Rennes-Caen direction. The left lane has been closed to secure the central reservation while the crash barriers are being repaired. In the other direction (Caen-Rennes), the motorway has been diverted between interchanges no. 2 at Saint-James and no. 31 at Montours. Bison Futé estimates that the motorway closure could last around six hours, or until early evening.
