The PQ wants to take the Terrebonne riding from the CAQ during the by-election that will follow the resignation of Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon

The resignation on Tuesday of the Minister of Economy and Energy, Pierre Fitzgibbon, could well change the plans of the four PQ members gathered in Rouyn-Noranda to prepare for the parliamentary session that will begin next week.

They are to discuss health issues in particular, but the departure of the influential minister is a dream come true for the Parti Québécois (PQ), which still leads in voting intentions according to the polls.

In fact, Mr. Fitzgibbon will also be leaving his position as MP for Terrebonne and a by-election should therefore be called in this constituency in the coming months.

Or Terrebonne has practically always been a PQ constituency until the electoral victory of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) in 2018.

In a press scrum on Tuesday in Rouyn-Noranda, PQ leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon did not hide his hope of retaking this stronghold.

He said his party saw it as a positive challenge and that his troops would work hard to elect a fifth PQ MP.
